Darts used to be a very simple game – players would turn up for a tournament and Phil Taylor would win it. Now as the European Championship is about to kick off here in Dortmund, a whole host of players have their eyes on the prize. Mr. Consistent, Luke Humphries, is always in contention to win; Michael Van Gerwen enjoys this event – he’s won it four times; the boy wonder Luke Littler just keeps getting better and better; Peter Wright has got his hands on the trophy last year; and fellow former World Champions Gerwyn Price, Michael Smith and Rob Cross will also take some beating.
And there’s always a chance that someone can emerge from the pack, like Ross Smith or Mike De Decker.
